NW-ZX2

NW-ZX2

The NW-ZX2 is the second-generation model part of the ZX series. It features 128GB of internal storage and supports audio playback in MP3, AAC, WMA, FLAC, ALAC, AIFF, Linear PCM, and DSD formats. It has a touch display and supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, NFC, USB connectivity, WM-PORT connectivity, video and photo playback, and various audio processing functions.

The NW-ZX2 refined Sony's high-resolution Walkman approach, building on the ZX1 with a stronger emphasis on power stability, amplification quality, and physical construction. It continued to use Android, but the platform was positioned as a supporting layer rather than the defining feature.

The design introduced a heavier chassis with increased internal volume and battery capacity, prioritizing stability and extended playback over compactness. The structure focused on reducing noise and maintaining consistent power delivery, aligning the device with dedicated audio hardware principles.

Internally, the ZX2 used an updated amplification system and supported high-resolution audio formats with improved control and lower background noise. The larger battery supported longer listening sessions, reinforcing its role as a dedicated playback device rather than a general-purpose portable.

The overall approach emphasized consistent audio performance, stable operation, and physical presence over flexibility or speed. The focus narrowed to sound above all else.
