Bi-Azimuth
WM-FX999

The WM-FX999 is the flagship radio Walkman of 1993, built on the same dual-head, bi-azimuth playback platform as the EX999 but extended into the tuner branch. It combined AM and FM reception with auto-reverse, Dolby B, Extended Dynamic Bass Boost, AVLS, Automatic Music Sensor, and remote operation inside a premium metal-framed body that was trying to offer both top-tier cassette playback and serious radio capability at once. Like the EX999, the real distinction was in how much mechanical compromise Sony was trying to eliminate.

This is one of those models where Sony was clearly refusing to treat radio as a second-class feature. The FX999 is an effort to bring the full premium cassette philosophy into a broader all-in-one listening machine instead of asking users to choose between tuner convenience and playback quality. It sits within the point when the radio Walkman had fully earned its own flagship tier.
