WM-FX811

Digital Tuner ASP
WM-FX811

The WM-FX811 is a high-end radio Walkman from 1995 that focused on thinness and tuning convenience instead of on recording or specialist features. At just 21.5 millimeters thick, it was unusually slim for a tuner-equipped cassette player of the period, yet still managed to include a digital FM/AM/TV tuner with automatic preset and one-touch nationwide search alongside auto-reverse, Dolby B noise reduction, Extended Dynamic Bass Boost, AVLS, and remote control. The metal chassis and integrated charger reinforced its position near the top of the everyday FX range.

This model shows Sony trying to preserve elegance even in the more utility-oriented radio branch. The FX811 was not built around novelty or excess, but around making a tuner Walkman feel as compact and resolved as the better playback-only machines. It came from the phase when Sony was trying to keep radio portability feeling modern in a market already starting to lean elsewhere.
