The WM-FX28 is a low-end radio Walkman that paired a simple analog FM/AM tuner with basic cassette playback inside a standing all-plastic body with carry clip and cassette window. It runs on two AA batteries and includes manual tape selection, anti-rolling support, and Sony's auto volume limiting system, but avoided Dolby, digital tuning, and most of the extras that would have complicated the machine or raised its price. The layout stayed direct and easy to read.
This is the radio branch in one of its most everyday forms. The FX28 exists in that very mature part of the Walkman timeline where cassette and radio had already become such a standard pairing that Sony could keep producing very plain combined players without needing to make them feel aspirational or advanced.
