WM-F12

WM-F12

The WM-F12 was a basic AM/FM radio Walkman built specifically for the US market, pairing simple cassette playback with a manual tuner and a DX/local switch for reception adjustment. Powered by two AA batteries, it used a straightforward plastic body and kept the player focused on essentials, with no recording capability or advanced transport features to complicate operation. It was a very direct radio-and-tape portable.

Radio functionality had become ordinary enough to exist without fanfare. Sony no longer treated the tuner Walkman as an exotic extension of the concept, but as a normal variation of it. The WM-F12 feels like a completely everyday American Walkman, which is exactly what makes it revealing.
