WM-EX707

The WM-EX707 is a metal-bodied playback Walkman from 1992 that focused on mechanical refinement instead of flashy new features, using Sony's improved EX Stabilizer transport to maintain steadier tape contact and reduce speed irregularities during movement. Auto-reverse, Dolby B, Extended Dynamic Bass Boost, AVLS, and Automatic Music Sensor remained part of the package, with AMS controls duplicated on both the body and the remote for easier use in motion. The metal shell gave it a more substantial, less disposable feel than the brighter lifestyle-oriented EX models nearby.

This is one of those models where Sony was clearly trying to make the middle of the lineup feel technically respectable without turning it into a flagship showcase. The EX707 was not there to reinvent the Walkman, but to make a very familiar kind of Walkman run and feel better. It sits within the point when mechanical confidence had become a selling point in its own right.
