WM-EX102

The WM-EX102 is a lower-end EX-series playback Walkman built around a standing plastic body, two AA batteries, Mega Bass, anti-rolling support, automatic tape-end shutoff, and a manual tape selector. It stayed very close to Sony's basic playback formula, avoiding auto-reverse, Dolby noise reduction, and more elaborate control features in favor of low cost and direct operation. The whole machine was built to be uncomplicated.

By 1994, Sony was clearly still protecting the bottom of the line. The EX102 was one of those functional continuation models meant to keep cassette accessible to younger users, casual listeners, and anyone who simply needed a tape player without being drawn into the more refined or feature-heavy end of the range.
