WM-702

WM-702

The WM-702 is a slim midrange playback Walkman that carries over much of the compact premium logic of the 701 family while simplifying the formula slightly for broader use. It offers auto-reverse, Dolby B, Extended Dynamic Bass Boost, an EX Amorphous head, logic control, and a refined inline remote with LED operation indicators and hold lock, all in a very slim metal body. It was clearly meant to feel advanced in use even if it sat below the very top of the range.

What makes the WM-702 notable is that its upgrades are mostly behavioral instead of dramatic. The improved remote and compact body mattered most once the player was actually in motion, tucked away and being uses constantly instead of admired on a shelf. It reads as Sony prioritizing what users would notice every day instead of what looked best in a spec comparison.
