WM-28

The WM-28 was an affordable playback Walkman that brought together two of the most desirable mid-1980s conveniences, auto-reverse and Dolby B noise reduction, without moving fully into the premium tier. It ran on two AA batteries and kept the rest of the design practical, with a manual tape-type selector, automatic shut-off, basic plastic construction, and a shoulder strap that reinforced its everyday portable role. The reversing mechanism added real usability without making the player feel especially elaborate.

Features that had recently felt advanced were beginning to normalize. This was not a flagship or a design statement, but a sign that uninterrupted playback and quieter sound were moving into more reachable parts of the market. It feels more like a commuter's Walkman than a collector's object.
