WM-190

The WM-190 is an entry-level playback-only Walkman from 1990 built around a slim rechargeable-first design, using an internal gumstick battery instead of reserving permanent space for a standard AA cell inside the body. That allowed Sony to keep the player thinner and cleaner than many comparable lower-end models, while an optional external AA attachment handled longer listening sessions when needed. It includes auto-reverse, Dolby B noise reduction, Extended Dynamic Bass Boost, an EX Amorphous head, a manual tape selector, and a simple LED indicator, keeping the machine functional without clutter.

even Sony's lower-end Walkman were now starting to inherit the habits of the premium line. Rechargeability, compactness, and cleaner packaging were no longer reserved for the expensive end of the catalog, but were beginning to filter downward into everyday models. It is a budget player from a moment when the baseline itself was getting more sophisticated.
