NW-S644

NW-S644

The NW-S644 is the first S Series Network Walkman to incorporate 32 GB flash memory options. It belonged to the seventh-generation family and introduced x-app-era software featured with tighter PS3 and TV integration. With 8 GB storage supporting MP3, WMA, AAC, and WAV playback plus video and photo functions, it includes a 240x320 TFT display, 42-hour lithium-ion battery, WM-PORT connection, Clear Audio, DSEE, Lyric Pita, and x-app.

This Walkman model shows Sony trying to make the Walkman feel more extroverted than it had in years. The built-in speakers, wider screen, and more media-friendly presentation all push the player away from the old headphone-first logic and toward something that could live more casually on a desk, in a room, or in shared use. Sony was clearly testing how far a dedicated player could stretch before it stopped feeling like a Walkman.
