NW-F885

First NFC
NW-F885

The NW-F885 is a second-generation F Series Network Walkman. It offers 16 GB storage supporting MP3, WMA, AAC, FLAC, AIFF, and Apple Lossless files on an 854x480 TFT display with a 35-hour lithium-ion battery. Touchscreen control, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, FM radio, speaker output, WM-PORT, video and photo playback, S-Master HX, DSEE HX, and Clear Audio+ were included. This was the first Walkman family to add NFC.

This player is part of the second major Android Walkman wave, where Sony starts making that whole idea feel much more coherent. The first F generation had already shown that the company wanted a modern connected Walkman that could survive in a smartphone world, but the concept still felt a little unsettled. With the F880 family, the branch becomes cleaner, sharper, and more self-aware. The design is more focused and the player feels much more deliberate as a dedicated audio object that just happens to live inside a more modern software environment.
