The D-EJ775 built on the same mature platform with a slightly more style-focused presentation, especially in its Sony Style variants. It retained G-Protection, CD-R/RW playback, and strong battery life within a slim, easily carried body.

The hardware itself was already settled. The D-EJ775 was part of the point when presentation and identity became a larger part of how the product was positioned instead of changes to the underlying player.
