The D-120 is a mainstream portable CD player from late 1993 aimed at everyday buyers in the broad middle of Sony's lineup. It offered basic electronic shock protection in a practical chassis that balanced battery life with portability, keeping the controls simple and the overall package easy to live with instead of trying to impress on spec sheet terms.
By this point, anti-skip had already started becoming part of the baseline Discman experience instead of something reserved for better models. The D-120 was part of the part of the line where portable CD stopped feeling like a premium purchase and started behaving closer to an ordinary daily object. That shift was really the story here.
