The WM-GX200 is a casual all-in-one recording Walkman released in 2000, combining cassette playback and recording with AM/FM radio, a built-in mono speaker, and a semi-translucent plastic body that reflected Sony's softer turn-of-the-century styling. It supports recording from radio or line input, auto-reverse playback, Mega Bass, and ISS interference suppression, while also becoming one of the first GX models to carry the updated dotted "W" Walkman logo. A carrying clip and simple AA-powered layout reinforced its role as an easy mixed-use portable instead of a serious recording specialist.
This is one of those models where the cassette Walkman starts to feel less of a dedicated audio machine and closer to a compact personal utility object. The GX200 was not trying to preserve high-end tape culture, but to remain useful for casual recording, shared listening, and everyday convenience. It comes from the late phase of the Walkman story, when versatility mattered more than prestige.
