The NWZ-A729 topped the 2009 A Series with highest capacity in its tier. It continued the series' emphasis on multimedia playback with ATRAC support. It includes 16 GB storage supporting MP3, WMA, AAC, and ATRAC files along with video and photo. Lithium-ion battery life reached 36 hours.

The A729 caps that same late flash A generation and gives the platform its fullest expression before Bluetooth, wireless, and touchscreen pressure started reshaping Sony's premium portable strategy. It still carries the same stable late-classic A identity, but here it feels fully expanded and fully deliberate.
