NW-E10

The NW-E10 is a high-capacity Network Walkman part of the MP3-compatible generation. It features 128MB of internal storage and supports ATRAC and MP3 audio playback. It has an LCD display, supports long operating time with a single AA battery, and uses a dedicated USB cradle for transfer.

The NW-E10 marked an early step toward more practical solid-state Walkman design, expanding on the first-generation models with increased capacity and improved everyday usability. It reflected Sony's effort to make flash-based audio players viable for regular listening rather than limited-use devices.

The hardware adopted a smooth, rounded bar form with a circular display window near the top, moving away from the more rigid shape of earlier models. Its lightweight body and integrated rechargeable battery simplified daily use compared with the battery-dependent NW-E3.

The player offered 128 megabytes of internal flash storage, doubling the capacity of its smaller counterpart and allowing for longer playback sessions. Music transfer still relied on OpenMG Jukebox, with MP3 files converted to ATRAC3 during transfer.

While the workflow remained controlled, support for MP3 sources made the system more flexible than earlier Network Walkman models. It moved the format closer to everyday use.
