Supported files and sources
- FLAC
- Stereo FLAC, including qualified 24-bit source files at 88.2, 96, and 192 kHz. High-resolution input is converted for Vita output; it is not native 192 kHz hardware output.
- MP3
- MPEG-1 Layer III at 44.1 kHz, mono or stereo, within the current decoder and validation scope. MP3 is not guaranteed to be gapless.
- Music folder
ux0:/data/PSVITAMAN/MUSIC/, including subfolders. Keep the rest of the PSVITAMAN data folder intact when upgrading.- Library
- Designed for up to 10,000 compatible tracks. Large libraries may take time to reconcile after changes.
- Cover art
- Compatible embedded JPEG and PNG artwork. Unsupported or damaged artwork falls back to No Cover without interrupting playback.
- Jellyfin
- LAN browsing and playback from a configured Jellyfin server on a private IPv4 network over HTTP. Server availability, authentication, media format, and network conditions still apply.
Installation
- Download the Alpha 1 ZIP or standalone VPK.
- Copy the VPK to a location you can open in VitaShell, then select it and confirm installation.
- Place compatible FLAC and MP3 files below
ux0:/data/PSVITAMAN/MUSIC/. Subfolders are supported. - Launch PSVITAMAN from LiveArea and allow the first library scan to finish.
- Later launches restore the saved library quickly and reconcile file changes in the background.
The online User’s Guide covers controls, library behavior, Jellyfin, Cassette View, EQ, and troubleshooting. Close PSVITAMAN through the normal LiveArea workflow.
Current limitations
- This is Alpha software. Wider hardware and library combinations may expose bugs that did not appear during qualification.
- MP3 support is currently limited to the accepted 44.1 kHz MPEG-1 Layer III scope and is not guaranteed to be gapless.
- High-resolution FLAC support describes the source file, not native high-resolution Vita output.
- Warm launches restore the last known-good library first; file changes are reconciled in the background and may take a short time to appear.
- Jellyfin Alpha 1 is intended for trusted LAN use over private IPv4 HTTP, not general internet streaming.
- Unsupported or damaged embedded artwork may show No Cover without affecting playback.
- The EQ CLIP indicator is a warning, not an automatic limiter. Reduce boosted bands or PREAMP if CLIP appears.

Diagnostics and privacy
PSVITAMAN reads your local music without retagging, moving, or deleting source files. Diagnostic logs stay on the Vita; nothing is uploaded automatically.
If a problem occurs, preserve the current diagnostic log before another session can replace useful evidence. Remove private paths, filenames, server addresses, or authentication data before posting a log publicly.
The bug-reporting guide explains what to include.
