Development Log

Major development milestones, hardware-test results, and release progress.

  1. Alpha 7

Alpha 7 focuses on stability and performance, with expanded MP3 compatibility across MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and MPEG-2.5 Layer III files and improved metadata handling.

Now Playing controls have been updated. Cassette View is now manual-only, and folder headings, Cassette text alignment, and long-text presentation have been refined.

  2. Alpha 6

Alpha 6 adds offline synced lyrics from local .lrc files, a 10-band EQ with saved Custom and PREAMP settings, and playback speed from 1.0x to 2.0x without changing pitch.

Confirm and Back now follow the PSP's Cross/Circle setting. More Japanese characters display correctly.

  3. Alpha 5

Alpha 5 added the live ten-band Spectrum Analyzer. MP3 playback starts faster, large cover art uses less memory, Japanese text displays more reliably, and Cassette gained track-skip controls. It also fixed playback, library, and metadata bugs.

  4. Alpha 4

Alpha 4 is PSPMAN's largest reliability update so far, shaped by reports and diagnostic logs from the first public releases.

It improves Japanese file, folder, metadata, and artwork handling; library startup and the 1,000-track limit; Queue and route selection; VBR seeking; standby and resume; and memory stability.

  5. Alpha 3

Alpha 3 adds practical MP3 playback alongside the existing FLAC path.

MP3 support covers MPEG-1 Layer III at 44.1 kHz, CBR or VBR, mono or stereo, through 320 kbps.

  6. Alpha 2

The first public PSPMAN release brings local FLAC playback, album artwork, playlists, favorites, resume playback, and cassette mode to supported PSP models.

Release details, compatibility, supported files, and current limitations live on the Releases page.

  7. 1,000-track hardware test completed

The current build completed a full session with 1,000 FLAC tracks, including repeated track changes and a clean shutdown.

Cold and warm development tests also passed at the full 1,000-track library limit.

  8. First FLAC playback

The first PSPMAN technical proof of concept successfully played a FLAC track on the PSP, establishing the core playback pipeline.
