Put a UTF-8 .lrc file beside the song with the same name: Song.mp3 + Song.lrc. Open LYRICS on Now Playing. No network needed.

Installation

  1. Back up important files before installing alpha software.
  2. Extract the download and copy the complete PSPMAN folder to /PSP/GAME/ on PSP storage.
  3. Confirm that the application ends at /PSP/GAME/PSPMAN/EBOOT.PBP.
  4. Put compatible audio files in /MUSIC/ or /PSP/MUSIC/.
  5. Safely disconnect the PSP, launch PSPMAN, and allow the first scan to finish.

The Alpha 7 User's Guide covers controls, lyrics, troubleshooting, supported limits, and safe exit. For Alpha 6, use the Alpha 6 guide. Alpha 5 users should use the Alpha 5 guide.

Current limitations

  • PSP-1000 support remains experimental; additional hardware testing is ongoing.
  • The Public Alpha library limit remains 1,000 compatible tracks.
  • A first scan of a large or changed library can take longer than an unchanged warm launch.
  • 2.0x Playback Speed is designed mainly for spoken audio and can use significant processing headroom with FLAC.
  • Unsupported or damaged embedded artwork can fall back to No Cover without affecting playback.

Diagnostics and privacy

PSPMAN saves a local diagnostic log named PSPMAN-HW-DIAG.log at the storage root. Nothing is uploaded automatically. Each launch replaces the previous log, so copy it before opening PSPMAN again after a problem.

Long sessions may condense routine log details. A log saved soon after a problem can still help diagnose startup, missing files, and playback issues.

The bug-reporting guide explains what to attach and how to protect private or copyrighted material.

Changes

  • Displays synchronized lyrics from a matching .lrc file beside an MP3 or FLAC track. Lyrics work offline and load when opened.
  • Adds a 10-band EQ with conservative presets, saved Custom settings, and a separate saved PREAMP control.
  • Adds playback speed control at 1.0x, 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x, and 2.0x without changing pitch, through the rate control on Now Playing.
  • Follows the PSP system Cross/Circle confirm assignment automatically, including Japanese Circle-confirm systems.
  • Shows more Japanese and mixed-script characters in track information and lyrics.

Known issues

  • PSP-1000 support remains experimental; additional hardware testing is ongoing.
  • The Public Alpha library limit remains 1,000 compatible tracks.
  • A first scan of a large or changed library can take longer than an unchanged warm launch.

Changes

  • Adds a live ten-band Spectrum Analyzer with Classic, Amber, Green, Monochrome, and Multicolor palettes.
  • Makes MP3 playback start dramatically faster while improving validation of ID3v2.4 footers, trailing APEv2 metadata, and valid final MPEG frames.
  • Improves large embedded artwork handling with bounded reduced JPEG decoding, plus safer fallback for progressive JPEG, PNG, malformed artwork, and unknown dimensions.
  • Improves Japanese character rendering, including full-width Latin letters and numbers.
  • Improves transitions between Now Playing, Spectrum, and Cassette; adds previous and next track controls to Cassette View; and polishes Folder counts and Album row spacing.
  • Fixes artwork retry exhaustion, a rare Library snapshot resource leak, stale or duplicated Playlist headings, and track skipping while Cassette View is active.
  • Qualified on real PSP hardware with mixed MP3 and FLAC libraries, the 1,000-track limit, wholesale library replacement, Japanese paths, varied metadata and artwork cases, repeated track transitions, and clean shutdown.

Known issues

  • The library holds up to 1,000 compatible tracks. If more are found, the additional tracks are left out so PSPMAN can keep running.
  • Unsupported or damaged embedded artwork may fall back to No Cover. Playback is unaffected.
  • After a complete replacement of the MUSIC library, the setup counter may remain at 0 while the library is rebuilding. The rebuilt library still publishes normally.
  • A first scan of a large or changed library can take longer than an unchanged warm launch.

Changes

  • Handles Japanese file names, folder names, metadata, and embedded artwork throughout the library and playback views.
  • Improves nested-folder scanning, library snapshots, changed-media reconciliation, and warm startup.
  • Safely limits oversized libraries to 1,000 compatible tracks.
  • Improves MP3 and FLAC playback, including replacement playback, VBR seeking and resume positions.
  • Keeps Queue, Album, Artist, Folder, and repeated Playlists browsing stable while preserving the selected track.
  • Restores supported Japanese text and playback state after standby and resume.
  • Polishes Cassette View by remembering the selected cassette color between sessions and hiding UNKNOWN ALBUM when album metadata is missing.
  • Removes Settings from the Library menu while preserving player preferences.

Known issues

  • PSP Go internal system storage and PSP-1000 are not supported.
  • The library holds up to 1,000 compatible tracks. If more are found, the additional tracks are left out so PSPMAN can keep running.
  • Unsupported, damaged, or unusually large embedded artwork may fall back to No Cover. Playback is unaffected.
  • Japanese text rendering: In some Japanese-heavy libraries, certain kanji may render incorrectly or appear as □ boxes. Playback is unaffected. We’re investigating this for Alpha 5.
  • A first scan of a large library can take several minutes. Later unchanged launches are usually faster.

PSPMAN 0.1.0-alpha.3

Changes

  • Adds MPEG-1 Layer III MP3 playback at 44.1 kHz, CBR and VBR, through 320 kbps.
  • Now Playing displays the active MP3 bitrate or VBR mode while preserving FLAC source details.

Known issues

  • Some library structures may stop during snapshot creation with “Library snapshot not saved.” Subfolders are supported; a smaller test library directly in /MUSIC/ is a temporary workaround. Reformatting or changing artwork is not expected to help. This is corrected in Alpha 4.
  • Some embedded artwork may not load under memory pressure, particularly PNG or unusually large images. Smaller JPEG artwork is a temporary workaround.
  • An album opened through Artist may include other artists from the same compilation.
