D-152

The D-152 is a mid-1990s portable CD player that ran on two AA batteries and kept to the familiar formula of Mega Bass, 1-bit playback, and a compact body built around everyday use instead of feature chasing. It is one of those models that did not need to be especially memorable to be useful, because the underlying template had already become dependable.

By 1996, Sony could build this kind of machine almost on autopilot. The D-152 was part of the large, practical center of the Discman market where the format had matured into solid, predictable players instead of constant novelty. A lot of real-world Discman ownership lived here.
